![]() It may be that Ubisoft felt like it was fighting against a growing tide of player disappointment, or potentially there were other internal issues at play, but either way it wasn't at all shocking when Ghost Recon Frontline was canceled in July. Considering many fans were either already skeptical about the upcoming game or outright set against it, this hardly did anything to overturn opinions. Many felt that the graphics were not up to scratch and there wasn't enough done to distinguish Ghost Recon Frontline from similar games like Call of Duty: Warzone. Earlier in 2021 it revealed The Division: Heartland, while just this past summer it unveiled. This didn't seem to stop some gameplay leaking out onto Twitch, and the response from fans was just as negative as it had been for the trailer. Ghost Recon Frontline is the third Tom Clancy free-to-play game that Ubisoft has announced this year. Ghost Recon Frontline's fortunes hardly improved, as a closed beta was launched in early 2022, but participants were under strict confidentiality agreements. This is never really a good sign, and usually means that the title in question is still a good distance away from where the studio needs it to be. This may have been the reason that Ubisoft subsequently canceled the game's alpha test and delayed it indefinitely. Tom Clancys Ghost Recon Frontline is a cancelled live-service first-person massively multiplayer online PvP class-based tactical shooter battle royale game. However, it wasn't to be, and it seems like Ghost Recon's live service future is now in doubt. The previous entry, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, was the first installment to require a constant online connection, and it seemed like Ghost Recon Frontline was adding even more innovations. Ghost Recon has been a staple of the military tactical shooter genre since the first game released in 2001, and players hadn't had a new title since 2019. The news was definitely a disappointment to fans who were hoping to see Splinter Cell VR and Ghost Recon Frontline at some point, but it didn't necessarily come as a massive surprise. It seemed like the future was going to bright for the developer as well given how many new titles it had in development, but in recent weeks, Ubisoft has announced the cancellation of some of its major games, while also delaying the highly anticipated Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and an unannounced "premium game." There’ll be additional tests down the line up until the game’s launch, whenever that will be. That’ll take place between October 14 and October 21. While there’s no release date yet, players in the UK and Europe on PC can sign up here for the first closed test. The shooter is being developed by Ubisoft Bucharest, who worked on both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. You’ll apparently also be able to switch between these contractors at will as it suits your needs. These include the Assault Class for close range combat, the Support Class with fortification skills and the Scout Class for recon. Players will also get to choose a class for their contractor, with three available from the off. We’re promised a “new take on the battle royale genre” with dynamic objectives and no converging circle. But not before every other squad tries to stop them. Once there, they’ll complete objectives, collect intel and then try and head to an extraction point to escape. Players will be dropped in squads of three onto a location known as Drakemoor island. The game was formally revealed towards the end of yesterday’s Ghost Recon 20th anniversary showcase, as previously teased. Ubisoft has announced Ghost Recon Frontline, a 100-player free-to-play shooter set in the Tom Clancy’s universe heading to consoles and PC.
